Valmet Automotive sets new production record in 2018 with over 100,000 cars

Valmet Automotive manufactured a total of 110,000 cars at the Uusikaupunki, Finland plant in 2018. For the first time in company history the production volume exceeds the 100,000 unit mark. The record indicates Valmet Automotive’s flexibility in production and strong cooperation with Daimler AG.

Valmet Automotive’s production volumes have been increasing since 2013, when the company entered into vehicle manufacturing agreements with Daimler AG. Initially manufacturing the 3rd generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Valmet Automotive has expanded its production with the Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV and the new A-Class.

In 2018, Valmet Automotive reached the new volume record of 110,000 cars with the Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV and 4th generation A-Class vehicles. The record volume has also ramped up Finnish car exports, and passenger cars have consolidated their position as one of the leading Finnish export items.

"The production volume of over 100,000 vehicles means Valmet Automotive has transformed from a specialty manufacturer into a volume manufacturer. This is a strategic achievement, with thanks to Daimler AG, partners and our personnel," said Mr. Pasi Rannus, SVP, Manufacturing business line, Valmet Automotive.

Over 100,000 cars is a strong case for Valmet Automotive’s flexibility and continuous growth. The production is based on scalable manufacturing services, ranging from small volume vehicles to premium high volume products. The previous record of the Uusikaupunki plant was 90,000 cars in 2017, whereas the new record paves the way to future production volumes.
