Constellium announced that is expanding its plant in Singen, Germany, with an additional aluminium extrusion press to supply automotive customers in Europe.

The company will build a dedicated 8,000 sq metres hall on its Singen campus for an expected start of production in mid-2020. Constellium anticipates approximately 50 new jobs will be created to support this new activity.

“Extrusions are the foundation of our Automotive Structures product portfolio,” commented Paul Warton, President of Constellium’s Automotive Structures and Industry Business Unit. “As our business continues to grow, Singen has become a diverse provider of complex, high-strength extrusions of all sizes, shapes, strengths and gauges for our automotive programs, as well as our rail, transportation and industrial customers. This new press increases not only capacity, but advances our efficiency and capability.”

With more than 100 years of service to the aluminium industry, the Singen facility is a pillar of Constellium’s manufacturing strategy, featuring the latest equipment for producing extrusions on five presses. The plant is the main extrusions supplier for Constellium’s Automotive Structures business in Europe, with dedicated presses to produce the aluminium profiles used to manufacture Crash Management Systems, Side Impact Beams and structural components.

Singen is home to a 100 MN press, which is the largest in Western Europe. With high-grade cold mills and an integrated hot/cold rolling line, Constellium Singen is also a provider of Automotive Body Sheet and other customised rolled products.

The plant produces aluminium sheets and coils with advanced functional surfaces for a range of applications, from architectural and interior design to vehicle decoration and cosmetic packaging. In addition, the facility is able to produce very thin material for closures and flexible packaging markets.
